Andrea Bocelli first stepped into the spotlight in 1994 when he won the newcomers’ category at the San Remo Music Festival with “Il mare calmo della sera.” That moment launched a career that’s been anything but quiet. Since then, he’s released 15 solo albums spanning both pop and classical music, along with several greatest‑hits collections and full operas. Altogether, his recordings have reached more than 90 million listeners around the world.

Bocelli became especially well‑known for blending classical and pop in a way that brought opera‑style singing onto mainstream charts. Romanza went on to become one of the best‑selling albums ever, and Sacred Arias still holds the record as the top‑selling classical album by a solo artist.

We’d seen Andrea Bocelli perform once before in Las Vegas. The venue was huge, and while the show was impressive, it didn’t quite match the intimacy his voice deserves. So when we heard he’d be performing at Charles Krug Winery for two nights in June as part of “A Weekend in Napa,” we were thrilled. We knew The Great Lawn would be a much better fit for him — still spacious, but with that close‑to‑the‑music feeling you just can’t get in an arena. Especially under the stars and surrounded by the stately oak trees.
“Intimate” might sound like an odd word for an outdoor concert, but it’s the only one that really captures the experience. The whole evening unfolded against the stunning backdrop of Napa Valley, with sunset performances, incredible food, beautiful accommodations, and more. Honestly, we had no idea just how much “more” there would be.

After picking up our tickets at the concierge window, we stepped into what they called Bocelli Village. In reality, the production team had transformed the entire Charles Krug Winery into their own world for the weekend.

They partnered with local chefs and nearby farms to create a food experience that felt way beyond what you’d expect at a concert. Bocelli Village itself was charming — a little marketplace of fresh, creative food and drink options waiting to be explored. Local vendors served some of Napa’s best dishes alongside traditional Italian favorites from restaurants like Press. There were wine‑tasting pop‑ups, small shops from local artisans, and even live musical performers scattered throughout the space. It felt less like arriving at a concert and more like walking into a beautifully curated festival.

The Oakland Symphony and Chorus were magnificent, creating a shimmering, almost cinematic backdrop for Bocelli and his supporting performers. Pia Toscano and Babyface joined him as vocal guests, each stepping into duets as well as delivering their own solo moments. At one point, Babyface, a Grammy Award winner, admitted he felt intimidated sharing the stage with Bocelli — and you could sense a touch of that vulnerability in his performance.

From our seats, which offered a perfect, unobstructed view, we were completely mesmerized. Andrea dazzled the appreciative crowd with a repertoire that moved effortlessly between classical elegance and beloved popular favorites. The ensemble around him — Toscano’s soaring clarity, the Oakland Symphony and Chorus’ rich, enveloping sound, American Violinist Caroline Campbell’s sultry strings, and the dance pair whose movements seemed to paint the music into the air — created a sensory experience that felt both intimate and grand.

It was the kind of performance that sweeps you up and holds you there, suspended in sound and light, until you forget the world outside the great lawn even exists.

The good news is that Bocelli and his full ensemble will return to Charles Krug in 2027, though the exact dates have not yet been announced. Keep an eye on aweekendinnapa.com for official updates from Charles Krug Winery as plans take shape.

If you decide to attend in 2027, remember that the event strikes that perfect balance of casual and upscale — think jeans or sundresses, comfortable shoes, and a light jacket for the cool vineyard evenings. It’s an atmosphere where you can relax into the music without sacrificing a touch of Napa Valley polish.
